Submission Guidelines

Contributors should prepare their manuscripts according to the following guidelines:

Language

IJBI accepts only manuscripts written in English. Manuscripts written in any language other than English will not be considered. British or American spelling is acceptable, but authors should use one consistently throughout. Contributors should write in a clear and simple style to make their contributions accessible to readers in other disciplines and to readers whose first language is not English. Contributors should avoid using technical jargon to the extent possible.  If its use is unavoidable, the jargon should be clearly explained. Abbreviations should be defined the first time they are mentioned in the text.

Format

Manuscripts, including notes and references, should be single-spaced and in Microsoft Word format. Manuscripts in any format other than Microsoft Word will not be accepted. Each manuscript should include an abstract between 150 to 300 words. A list of 3 to 5 keywords, in alphabetical order, should be provided following the abstract. Please refer to the IJBI manuscript template.

Anonymity

All contributors’ identifying information (name, affiliation, address, telephone, and e-mail address), self-identifying references (including acknowledgments) and “Track Changes” should also be removed. The manuscript “Properties” should be erased prior to submission. Instead, contributors should attach a separate cover page giving the title of the manuscript and all contributors’ full identifying information (name, affiliation, address, telephone, and e-mail address).

Ethics

Contributors must confirm that submissions are unpublished and not under review anywhere else. Plagiarism is unacceptable conduct and cannot be accepted.

Length

Manuscripts – including title, abstract, keywords, main text, and references – submitted to IJBI should not exceed 35 pages. The allowable length of a paper is at the editorial board’s discretion.

Notes

Footnotes should not be used. Short notes can be incorporated in the text in square brackets.

Tables and Figures (including Illustrations)

Contributors should number tables and figures separately, in sequential order. Arabic numerals should be used for both tables and figures (Table 1, Table 2; Figure 1, Figure 2), and each table and figure should be given a descriptive title. If figures, tables, or illustrations are reproduced from published works, contributors must provide written permission issued by the original publishers or copyright holders.

Citations

When contributors cite references in the manuscript text, their citation should conform to the appropriate APA style. Multiple references should be listed alphabetically in

parentheses, separated by semicolons; for instance, (Author A, year; Author B, year).

References

References should conform to the APA Style and be listed alphabetically by authors’ last names at the end of the manuscript. The following are common samples for citing different types of sources:
